STATEMENT

A shadow could be seen as a drawing because it meets certain traditional criteria: it translates 3D information into 2D format, using edges, value and a form of perspective.  But, unlike a traditional drawing, a shadow is a stenciled image created without traditional drawing skills.

I'm interested in how this idea can be used to create drawings that reflect my own era, with its deskilled processes, factory production, virtual space, etc. It seems appropriate to apply industrial approaches to drawing - but in service of artistic exploration and experimentation rather than commercial production.

With painting and drawing available as expanded concepts, and interchangeable with installation, I pose that... New drawings can occur in real time, and be separated from their support; they can be controlled by electricity, enlarged, reduced, created and destroyed instantly. They have a physical relationship with the object being depicted; and they are completely accurate depictions but are not illusions.  Exploration is ongoing.
